The sky is not always blue

To ask why we exhaust our bodies is the same as wondering why the sky is always blue. If we do not get tired, we do not pause and rest. The same token, if the sky is blue the entire time, nothing can signal our bodies to call it a day, leave work, and come home to our family—or the six dogs.

Why is the sky blue in the morning and dark at night?

This question crossed my mind one sunny afternoon at work. In my free time, I figured the answer from Google (exaggeration mine): the sky is blue because the light from the sun when it hits the atmosphere scatters off in all directions lighting up the sky to almost always full-blue. At night, when the sun is somewhere else, nothing but the moon is hitting on the molecules in the atmosphere, which is why we get a dimly-lit but equally beautiful sky.

Thanks to the sun, we can see the curvatures of mountains and the white pillows clouding them. We also see the birds and get jealous of their flights. Overall, we see the wonders of nature that have remained mostly dominant and vibrant despite the artificial touches our careless hands have caused.

It is easy to believe that if the sky is not blue, it is black. That sleeping is the opposite of being awake, and that one in ten who does not like coffee might go with milk. But I don’t always subscribe to opposites.

The sky can get brighter or dimmer depending on the weather, be it daytime or nighttime. There are shades to it. Beyond the color of the sky, I cannot help but wonder about its temporal nature and, relating it to our lives, the actions and decisions we assert herein.

The problem with opposites is we have attached meanings to them. We assume a kid who prefers blue does not like pink even though we have not asked what the kid identifies with in the first place.

The same fluidity with gender, we should free the kid (and everyone) from pre established constructs. Blue is blue with no opposites. The kid need not answer our questions. Allow one to bloom.

Now ponder over the sky.

When the weight of the world moves with us, we readily save our tears in the bathroom. But on rare, moonlit nights, when we brave our very own eyes looking as though our mother's and swelling hearts that we still claim as ours, we write down our fears, big dreams, and that of anxiousness. For the said reason, this site exists.
